Triton Kitchen Managers Receive School Nutrition Association Certification

Did you know that students who eat a healthy diet are more likely to have improved attention spans,  perform better in academics and generally make healthier life decisions, from food choices to physical activity? 

Triton is proud to announce that every Kitchen Manager across the district has now been certified by the School Nutrition Association (SNA), a national, nonprofit professional organization recognized as the authority on school nutrition. The SNA has been advancing the availability, quality and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education since 1946.

Why be Certified?

With the ever changing requirements and regulations of the school nutrition program, it’s more important than ever to invest in school nutrition professional development.  School Nutrition staff who achieve a Certificate in School Nutrition from SNA commit to ongoing training, growth & education that align with the USDA Professional Standards. Earning a Certificate in School Nutrition increases an individual’s knowledge of food safety and nutrition and demonstrates a commitment to the profession.

Triton Night at Sea Festival of Trees – 11/22

Looking to get in a festive spirit? “Triton Night at SeaFestival of Trees” is Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Students and residents of Newbury, Byfield, Rowley, and Salisbury receive discounted admission, free hot cocoa and a cookie! Admission is only $2. The money raised at the festival benefits Anna Jaques Hospital and the Salisbury Beach Partnership.

This year our district is showcasing four trees! Salisbury Elementary School, the Salisbury Elementary PTA, Triton, and TALC are all donating trees.

Superintendent Forget Announces Listening Forums at All Schools


A letter from Superintendent Forget:

As I have previously mentioned, I am conducting a formal entry planning process that includes a vast array of listening meetings to hear from all constituencies across the Triton district. I have completed 32 meetings to date that include private interviews, as well as public meetings with groups including staff, the Triton SEPAC and Boards of Selectmen. Through these dialogues, I have been able receive clarity on some issues, and provide clarity to some on others. With 32 meetings under my belt, and another 30+ to go, I have already learned invaluable information about our district that will help guide us as we look to celebrate our successes while striving to continually make our schools better.

I have scheduled an open forum style meeting for you as parents and guardians at each of the 5 schools in the coming weeks. With an eye towards learning what we do well and where we need to improve, your perspective as parents and guardians is unique, and can differ significantly from school to school. That is the basis for scheduling meetings at each location.

The following are the dates scheduled for these listening forums.

Newbury Elementary: Monday, November 21st at 7:00 PM – NES Auditorium
Pine Grove School: Wednesday, November 30th at 7:00 PM – PGS All Purpose Room
Salisbury Elementary School: Monday, November 28th at 7:00 PM – SES Library
Middle School: Monday, December 12th at 7:00 PM – Middle School library
High School: Monday, December 19th at 7:00 PM – High School Library

My intentions from these sessions are not to identify those that shared the information in my public findings in the spring, but to look at those data points among many to find trends and patterns of our collective beliefs. That said, if there is information that you believe is important for me to know, but while sitting there you feel it is not something that is not productive to share in an open forum, I would be happy to hear from you directly or to meet with you personally afterwards. Salisbury Elementary PTA receives Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation Grant

Salisbury Elementary PTA (SES PTA) recently received $20,000 from the Institution for Savings through its Charitable Foundation. This award will go to support a number of initiatives at SES including a Parent Speaker Series, iPads to enhance Music Education, Stand up Desks, theater admission and transport for the 500 children K-6, High School Graduate Day at SES, and several other enriching activities.

Project Information:

The Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation Grants Committee announced awarding SES PTA a grant for a number of projects that the PTA supports. As proven throughout town, the Institution for Savings believes in supporting Salisbury education, youth, arts, and culture. They are dedicated to making our community a better place to live and this award is yet another example of putting its mission into motion.

SES PTA is collaborating with its 25 educators to plan trips to various theaters along the North Shore, including the 6th grade annual trip to the North Shore Music Theater. SES PTA has also allocated a portion of these funds to bring a Parent Speaker series to the school that will be open to the community. Dr. Elizabeth Englander will speak on relevant parenting topics such as cyberbullying and children’s use of media. Also scheduled to add tools to our parent’s toolbox is the popular Lynn Lyons, LICSW: Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents and Charlie Appelstein, MSW; No Such Thing as a Bad Kid.

SES supports the many learning styles of its 500+ children, and their educators are constantly seeking ways to create learning environments that are responsive to each and every child’s needs. Accordingly, funds from the Institute will be put to use in the Music Room through the purchase of iPads. There are hundreds of great music-based apps that not only increase musical knowledge, but also foster the love of learning about music. Funds from this grant will also purchase stand up desks that will be installed in classrooms for any child to use as an alternative to sedentary learning.

Lastly, funds will contribute towards many other enriching experiences. One such example: inviting the SES High School Graduates to visit SES’ young students dressed in cap and gowns for a formal parade through the school, short speaking opportunities, and lunch. This event will inspire our children, empower our graduates, and remind our educators just how special they are and how important their profession is.

Salisbury Elementary School PTA is the oldest operating PTA, founded in 1910. SES PTA strives to carry out the mission and values of the PTA, which are to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Encouraging and supporting student growth is one of the most important aspects of education. The SES PTA addresses these issues through training and support of local PTA units as well as collaborations on projects and educational programs. SES PTA is continually striving to advocate, communicate and support our units with the ultimate goal of keeping parents and our community involved in our children’s education.  Not only do they provide a voice for our community’s children, SES PTA  works hard to ensure these children have enriching educational experiences that they may not have otherwise.

Triton Community Celebrates Grand Opening of Triton Memorial Field at Institution for Savings Stadium

The Triton Regional School District is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of Triton Memorial Field at Institution for Savings Stadium at the Middle and High School campus.  The opening ceremony will take place prior to the home opener football game on October 14th, 2016 at 6:45pm, with the kickoff scheduled for 7pm.  On the agenda are welcoming remarks by Institution for Savings President, Michael Jones, Athletic Director Sean McInnis, and student athlete Erin Savage.  

Students from all grades and schools will play a large part in the celebration. The memorial ticket and poster have been designed by student artists, student athletes from all sports teams will meet and greet the community, and elementary school band students have been invited to play The National Anthem alongside the High School & Middle School bands prior to Kickoff. Additionally, to help spread the word and generate excitement among lower grades, high school students accompanied by the Triton Viking are scheduled to visit and greet students at each elementary school the week of the Grand Opening. The half-time show will feature the Triton Viking Cheerleaders, a performance by the Triton Marching Band and a special event sponsored by Arthur S. Page Insurance Company: A chance to win $10,000 for a successful 40-yard field goal! Stay tuned for details on how to enter!

The Triton Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility that replaces the former stadium that was in complete disrepair.  The new stadium features a full amenities building, full width soccer pitch, full 8 lane straight/ 6 lane oval track, track timing system, team room, and a one-of-a-kind location with views of the marsh that can’t be beat.  The stadium will seat 1,512, with additional standing room that will increase capacity by approximately another 1,000 spectators. The stadium and fields will be used by a number of different fall and spring sports teams including Football, Field Hockey, Boys & Girls Soccer, Marching Band, Color Guard, Boys & Girls Lacrosse, and Boys & Girls Track & Field. Baseball, Softball and Cross Country will also use the fields for practice.

There were many people involved who made the new Stadium a reality. Thank you to the Town Officials and the towns of Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury for supporting the project, The Institution for Savings and officers Mike Jones, President and Kim Rock, Executive Vice President, and the Triton Education Foundation.

Online tickets to the Home Opener are on sale now thru Thursday October 13th by clicking here. Tickets will also be available for advance sale on Wednesday and Thursday, October 12 and 13th, at the high School, and at the door the night of the game.  Tickets are $4 for students and Seniors, $6 for Adults.

Salisbury Elementary Students Enjoy the Fruits of Their Labor

In most cases, there’s nothing more rewarding than reaping what you sow, and for the 520 students at Salisbury Elementary School, this couldn’t have been more true.  Last spring, the schoolwide project to build a garden was initiated with generous donations from the Newburyport Five Cent Savings Bank, and the Massachusetts Retired Teachers/Farm to School Project.  Teachers, custodians, educational assistants, administrators, students & the community worked together to build, install, prepare & plant raised garden beds.  And because the garden beds were located in the courtyard of the school, the children had to transport full wheelbarrows through the school – what could be more fun than that?

Each classroom was invited to plant, and throughout the summer, children that attended school visited the garden to water, measure, identify, pick and, of course, taste! By the end of the summer, the gardens spilled over with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, herbs, flowers, pumpkins and more!

Now that school has started, a basket sits in the office with fresh veggies and flowers for SES families to help themselves, and more recently, the harvest was brought to the SES café for the children to enjoy. And we all know, nothing tastes sweeter than a tomato you helped grow from seed yourself!

American Music & Harvest Festival Continues Tradition of Bringing Best of New England Music to Historic Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm 

Sixth Annual Event raises money for schools with live music, local food, and fun for the whole family on a historic Newbury farm.

NEWBURY, Mass. (August 2, 2016) – The 6th annual American Music & Harvest Festival will be Saturday, September 24 at Historic New England’s Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury, Massachusetts. Through a generous donation by Institution for Savings, the day-long family event will feature music, vintage base ball, and farm activities. This year’s gathering will feature Boston rockers Watts, funk fan favorites Das Pintos, Western Mass darlings The Fawns, along with Bulgarian surf guitar, New Orleans brass bands, a rousing sea shanty sing-along, and local food and fresh brew.
Keeping with and expanding upon festival tradition, proceeds from the American Music & Harvest Festival will be donated to the Amesbury, Georgetown, Gloucester, Ipswich, Masconomet, Newburyport , Pentucket, Rockport, and Triton Education Foundations, The Immaculate Conception School and the River Valley Charter School Foundation.
“We are honored to be a part of the 6th annual American Music & Harvest Festival.  This is an amazing community event where we can bring 11 education foundations together to celebrate their schools, their community, the fall harvest and enjoy great music, great food  and vintage baseball” said Megan Ashe, president of Newburyport Education Foundation. “We truly believe the festival will continue to be a true community event for many years to come. Once again, there will be something for everyone–fantastic food and beer vendors, vintage baseball, and kid friendly activities to celebrate the harvest season such as tractor rides, cider pressing and a husking bee. The day also features triple-headers with the Essex Base Ball Association, which plays using rules and uniforms from the 1860’s, and teams from around New England.
